Bruno Delaunoit | Maths teacher & Waldorf-Steiner pedagogue

Bruno Delaunoit | Local on-site Group, Berlin/Germany

For the past 10 years, Bruno Delaunoit has been teaching mathematics in a secondary school in Belgium.

“My career path has significantly evolved in 2016 when the school opened new classes based on the Waldorf-Steiner education. In this pedagogy, art is key and helps the students find a balance between « Head, Heart and Hands », thus aiming at a harmonious development of the young adult. Teacher collaboration is also very important to set up transversal projects involving several subjects. For instance, students in the terminal class work on the theme of the Holocauste through Geography, History, Statistics.

I have coordinated several projects for cultural exchanges in Burkina Faso, Vietnam and Morocco.

In 2017, I coordinated a project with Roman Kroke entitled « Art as a medium to position oneself in front of the migration crisis – Fear of the Unknown». The theme was developed throughout the school year by several teachers. Activities involved interviews of migrants in a center in Belgium, personal research on migrants in each student’s genealogy, analysis of statistics about migration flows. Eventually, a week-end with Roman Kroke took place to transform all these activities into artworks, which helped the students to express their personal positions.

In 2019, I have submitted with André Bossuroy and Mediel a project on the memorial of Bernard Lipstadt, the only jewish child who escaped from the Belgian camp of Dossin. The project involved teachers of Geography, History and English. In 2021 a film about this story will be founded by 'Democracie ou barbarie' (Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, Belgium).

I am excited to meet Roman Kroke again and get new ideas for future projects. At a moment when the last survivors of this period of time are disappearing, I like the approach taken by Roman to make a memorial alive.”
