Ilaria Cansella, born in Milan, lives in Grosseto/Italy. In 2007 she graduated in "Documentation and Historical Research" with a contemporary focus at the University of Siena. At the same university, she obtained, in 2018, a PhD with a thesis on Italy's development policies in Africa in the 1950s-1970s. Her historical interests focus on the history of anti-fascism, resistance and purge. In particular, since 2008, she has participated in the multi-year research on Tuscan anti-fascist volunteers in the Spanish Civil War, as part of the ISGREC-Ministerio de la Presidencia projects in Spain. For the ISGREC series she has edited, together with Francesco Cecchetti, the volume “Volontari antifascisti toscani nella guerra civile spagnola” (2012) and published, in 2017, together with Enrico Acciai, “Storie di indesiderabili e di confini. I reduci antifascisti di Spagna nei campi francesi” (1939-1941).
