Artworks created at the House of the Wannsee Conference (Meeting in Berlin, 20-24 September 2021)

The workshop at the House of the Wannsee Conference was led by the interdisciplinary artist Roman Kroke. The main metaphor to which he introduced the participants to reflect on the history of the site was the metaphor of the “HOUSE” – and its diverse elements such as the cave, windows, staircases, open and locked doors etc. This approach allowed, for instance, to integrate ideas of the Gaston Bachelard (27 June 1884 – 16 October 1962), a French philosopher who made contributions in the fields of poetics and the philosophy of science:

“… the house is our corner of the world. It is - as we have often said - our first universe.”

“Every really inhabited space carries the essence of the notion of the house. The house is one of the greatest powers of integration for the thoughts, memories and dreams of man.”
